Impact:
These changes will have no impact on financial, physical plant, student requirements, or faculty resources.
Rationale:
These proposed changes to the course descriptions are intended to more accurately reflect the current sequence of topics covered in the music technology curriculum.
MUSC 385 now covers digital audio workstation (DAW) operation (instead of analog tape machine operation) in order to reflect the predominant shift towards digital recording within the music industry. Analog tape recording is now being covered in MUSC 485.
MIDI is now included in the MUSC 387 description and surround recording techniques are now included in the 487 description.
The study of studio acoustics was moved from MUSC 484 into MUSC 486. This change was made so that the electronic principles of audio engineering could be covered in 484.
