Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

APC Document 55:                                     Changes to MMAS major requirements as necessitated by MCOM curriculum changes

Effective Date: Fall 2008

1.  Delete:         On page 202, under Major in Multimedia Art and Sciences, in item I.C.:

                  Emphasis Areas--select six to eight hours

Add:           On page 202, in place of deleted entry:

                  Emphasis Areas--select six to seven hours

2.  Delete:         On page 202, under Major in Multimedia Art and Sciences, item I.C.3:

                  Video Production: MMAS 350, 450; VMP 207 and 209 and either a) VMP 303,
305 and 307, or b) one course from VMP 437, 439 or 493.

Add:           On page 202, in place of deleted entry:

                  Video Art and Design: MMAS 350, 450; VMP 207 and 209.

Impact:
There will be little or no impact on the emphasis area. No additional staff is required. Existing resources can accommodate all changes.

Rationale: 
MMAS students should be required to take a least one course in MMAS in their Emphasis Area.  VMP 303 is now a prerequisite for the upper level VMP courses, so the department felt it was better to remove the upper-level VMP courses as an option for this concentration and allow students to complete the emphasis area by taking either MMAS 350 or 450 and VMP 207 and 209 without additional VMP classes.
