Effective Date: Fall 2008
1. Add: On
page 167, before the entry for Italian:
Interdisciplinary
Studies: Neuroscience (NEUR)
Minor in Neuroscience
The neuroscience minor helps students understand brain
science from different disciplinary perspectives. Students must complete 23
hours for the minor including BIOL 116, CHEM 111 and CHEM 132. 15 additional
hours must be selected from the courses listed below. (Note: prerequisites for
some of these courses may increase the total number of hours.) The minor must
include a minimum of 9 hours at the 300-400 level of which 6 hours must be from
outside the student’s major department. Appropriate special topics courses may be substituted
with the approval of the director of the Neuroscience minor.
BIOL 338 Mammalian Physiology (4)
BIOL 344 Cell Biology (4)
BIOL 360 Animal Behavior (4)
BIOL 444 Biological Biochemistry

BIOL 455 Principles of Animal
Physiology (4)
CHEM 236 General Chemistry II (3)

PSYC 325 Perception (3)
171-4, 271-4, 371-4, 471-4 Special Topics in Neuroscience (1-4)
Courses
not otherwise included in the catalog but for which there may be special needs.
May be repeated for credit as subject matter changes. See program director.
179, 379, 479 Liberal Studies Colloquia (LS 179, 379, 479)
Colloquia offered to fulfill ILS requirements. See Liberal Studies for course
descriptions. May not be used to fulfill major or minor requirements.
Impact:
There will be an increase in students from
psychology, math, biology and chemistry taking courses in the other
departments. Other impacts of the Neuroscience minor include increased
enrollment by non-majors in upper level Biology courses.
Rationale:
Neuroscience
is a huge interdisciplinary field with over 40,000 neuroscientists. Many of our
students would like to go to graduate school in neuroscience or a related
discipline. A minor in neuroscience would help them focus their elective
credits to best prepare them for graduate school in the field.
2. Add: On page

Neuroscience
3. Add: On page

Neuroscience NEUR
Impact:
None.
Rationale:
Editorial
addition to include Neuroscience in the listing for minors. Also need to add the NEUR prefix.
