of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 47: Add three new courses in Environmental
Studies: ENVR 315, ENVR 324, and ENVR 365
Effective Date: Fall 2008
1. Add On page
129, new course, ENVR 315:
315 Scientific Writing (3)
Instruction in writing papers in the format required
by scientific journals. Students will develop skills in writing, researching,
data presentation, and revising, through extensive peer-editing and class
discussion of student papers. Prerequisite: LANG: 120. Odd years Spring.
Impact: No significant impact.
Rationale:
Course
has been offered three times as a special topics course by existing
faculty. Special topic courses must be
added to the catalog if they are offered a fourth time. Scientific writing is used as an advanced
elective by ENVR majors for all concentrations.
2. Add: On page
129, new course, ENVR 324:
324 Environmental Ethics (3)
This course explores the intersection of
environmental ethics with science and policy from a diversity of Western and
Non-western theoretical perspectives. Students will identify local and global
applications of theory and learn to develop ethical arguments. Fall.
Impact: No significant impact.
Rationale:
Environmental
Ethics is part of two ILS clusters, is listed as a Diversity-Intensive course,
and can serve as an advanced elective for ENVR majors. The course will be taught as a special topics
course for the third time in spring 2008.
3. Add: On page 131, new course, ENVR 365:
365 Strategies for Sustainability (3)
Introduction to the study of institutional change and
improved environmental performance. Focus on manufacturers, large institutions
such as universities and hospitals, and the built environment. Prerequisite: ENVR 334. Even years Spring.
Impact: No significant impact
Rationale:
Course
will be offered as a special topics course for the third time in spring 2008 by
existing faculty. It expands the course options for ENVR majors in the
Environmental Management and Policy Concentration.
