Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
Effective Date:
Fall 2008
1. Delete: On pg. 186, the entry for
MCOM 101, Understanding the News Media
Impact: The course
hasn't been offered for several semesters. There will be no impact on other
programs.
Rationale: The essential
material once included in this course is now taught in MCOM 104 and other
courses. Elimination of the course makes room for other proposed changes in the
MCOM curriculum.
2. Delete: On pg. 186, the entry for MCOM 102, Media Entertainment and American
Culture
Impact: The course hasn't been offered for several
semesters. There will be no impact on other programs.
Rationale: The essential material once included in this course
is now taught in MCOM 104 and other courses. Elimination of the course makes
room for other proposed changes in the MCOM curriculum.
3. Delete: On pg. 187, the entry for MCOM 325, Opinion Writing
Impact: This change
will have no impact on other programs. No new resources will be required.
Rationale: Elimination of this course makes room for other
proposed changes in the MCOM curriculum. MCOM 325 was offered infrequently, and
has been replaced by workshop-oriented courses, following current “best
practices” in communication education. The two-hour format of the workshop
courses will guarantee that other essential offerings can occur on a timely
basis.
4. Delete: On pg. 188, the entry for MCOM 364, 19th Century Newspaper
Women
Impact: This change
will have no impact on other programs. No new resources will be required.
Rationale: Elimination of this
course makes room for other proposed changes in the MCOM curriculum. Our
specialist in this area has retired, and we have no one in our department
qualified to teach this course at this time.
5. Delete: On pg. 189, the entry for MCOM 494, Senior Seminar
Impact: This change will have no impact on other programs.
No new resources will be required.
