Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 27: Delete
Studio Art requirements for the Art History minor
and replace with Art
History courses;
Change Art History
minor requirements to allow students to
complete a research
project instead of the comprehensive exam
Effective Date: Fall 2008
1. Delete:
On pg. 63, under Minor in Art History, Items I and II:
I.
The
Art History minor consists of 24 credit hours in required courses: ART 100; 101
or 103; ARTH 201 and 202; 12 additional hours in Art History offerings.
II.
The
Art History minor requires students to pass the comprehensive exam given by the
department each semester.
Add: On pg. 63, in place of deleted entry:
I.
The
Art History minor consists of 24 credit hours in required courses: ARTH 201 and
202; and 18 additional hours in Art
History offerings.
II.
The
Art History minor requires students to pass the comprehensive exam given by the
department each semester. With the approval of the
Art History advisor, students may complete a research project instead of the
comprehensive exam.
Impact: Students pursuing a minor
in Art History will no longer be required to take studio art courses. They will
also now be able to complete a Senior Undergraduate Research Project instead of
Comprehensive exam with approval of the Art History advisor.
Rationale: At present, students minoring in Art History are
required to take two courses in studio art. These students would benefit more
from taking additional Art History courses.
In addition, students
minoring in Art History are currently required to pass the comprehensive exam.
Students who are advanced and working in a related area should be allowed to
complete their requirements for the minor by writing a research paper in a
chosen area of interest.
