Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

APC Document 47:  Changes to Prerequisite Requirements for ENVR 241

Effective Date: Fall Semester, 2000.

Delete: Page 108 under ENVR 241, Principles of Ecology and Field Biology, delete:
Prerequisite: BIOL 210 or 211 or ENVR 130. Fall.

Add: Page 108 under ENVR 241, Principles of Ecology and Field Biology, add:
Prerequisite: ENVR 130. Fall.

Impact Statement: None; ENVR Ecology concentration students must still take BIOL 210 or 211.

Rationale: This prerequisite was originally put in to make sure that Biology majors who would not have taken ENVR 130 would, in fact, have had a reasonable background for the course. However, now that the Biology Department offers their own Conservation Biology (i.e., ecology) course, there are virtually no Biology majors taking this course. We have also learned from experience that it is not necessary to have BIOL 210 or 211 to do well in this course, but it is necessary to have completed ENVR 130.
