APC Document 15: Catalog Change in the Prerequisite for PHYS 231

Effective Date: Fall, 2000

Delete: in the last line of the description of PHYS 231, the phrase:
Prerequisite: PHYS 131

Replace with:
Prerequisite: PHYS 131 or 221

Rationale:
The two sequences PHYS 131/231 and PHYS 221/222 essentially cover the same content. PHYS 131/231 use algebra and trigonometry and PHYS 221/222 use calculus. Therefore, students completing either the non-calculus based or the calculus based first semester of physics will be prepared to take the non-calculus based second semester.
