Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

APC Document #11: Changes in Oral Competency Requirements for Management

Effective Date: Fall 1999

#1

Delete: on p. 153, the following under "General Requirements for Management":

II. Demonstration of both oral and degree competency is fulfilled by obtaining a grade of C or better for the option listed above (I-c) and for Senior Seminar.

Replace: with the following

II. a. Demonstration of degree competency is fulfilled by obtaining a grade of C or better for the option listed above (I-c) and for MGMT 491.

b. Demonstration of oral competency is fulfilled by meeting published department standards regarding a designated presentation.

Impact: No affect on other departments or the hours a student needs to graduate.

Rationale: It was the original intent for students to successfully demonstrate oral competency. However, the current requirements do not reflect this, as a student could conceivably earn a C or better in the required courses/option, but not demonstrate oral competency at a C or better level. Changing the requirements as shown above eliminates this possibility.

#2

IV. Other departmental requirements-Successful completion of MGMT 492 with a C or better satisfies both the demonstration of degree and oral competency requirements.
