Provides underlying theory along with examples to illustrate key concepts in behavior. Prerequisites: Biol 105, 210, or permission of the instructor. Offered fall semester. Biology 110 Plants and Humans (3) Non-technical study of plants, emphasizing topics of student interest and plants of western North Carolina. Includes growth, reproduction, interactions and uses that humans make of plants. Offered summer term. Add (underlined): (on p. 49, under Three-Hour Requirement) BIOL 110 Plants and Humans 3 semester hours Impact Statement: 1) The addition of BIOL 360 increases availability of this course grouping to Biology majors. ENVR may wish to cross-list the course as well. 2) Editorial change simplifies interpretation of requirements for Minor by naming course groupings. Grouping also adds BIOL 337, 356 and 360 to the first cluster, and adds BIOL 336 to the second cluster as choices for the Minor. 3) Addition of BIOL 360 Animal Behavior and BIOL 110 Plants and Humans, will increase course options available to students of Biology, Environmental Studies. 4) Addition of BIOL 110 Plants and Humans, will increase course options available to students fulfilling General Education Science requirements. 5) Courses added will be taught by current staff. No new positions are required for these particular courses. Addition of a new lab course (BIOL 360) occasioned by the hiring of a new faculty member has budgetary implications that eventually must be addressed by Administration. Rationale: 1) The name change "Ecology, Evolution and Biodiversity" better describes this grouping of courses. 2) The listing of course options to meet Minor in Biology requirements needed simplification. 3) BIOL 360, Animal Behavior, represents one of the specialities of our newest faculty member, Dr. Tim Forrest. The course should be of high interest to our students.
