THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT ASHEVILLE FACULTY SENATE Senate Document Number 3496S Date of Senate Approval 2/8/96 Statement of Faculty Senate Action: APC Document 32: Catalog Changes for Second Baccalaureate Degree Requirements Effective Date: Because this is a clarification of the existing policy, it is effective pending approval by the APC and Faculty Senate. Add: In Catalog 1995-96, on page 36, at the end of number 3 of the GRADUATION entry, the following: UNCA graduates must complete 30 additional hours after the initial degree was awarded. Delete: In Catalog 1995-96, on page 54, the first sentence of the entry Second Baccalaureate Degree, which reads: This student is considered a transfer student and must meet all the conditions of transfer students, with the additional stipulation that at least two-thirds of the courses required in the major department must be taken at UNCA. Add: In place of the deleted sentence: This student is considered a transfer student, even if the initial degree was earned at UNCA, and must meet all the conditions of transfer students, with the additional stipulation that at least two-thirds of the courses required in the major department must be taken at UNCA. Rationale: Many of our students are returning to UNCA to complete the requirements for a second baccalaureate degree. These students have had some difficulty interpreting the graduation requirements for this classification. This is an attempt to clarify the current practice. Impact: None. These additions are in response to student and faculty requests.
