Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

    APC Document 21: Catalog Change in the Incomplete Policy


Effective Date:     Because this is simply a clarification of the
                    existing policy, it is effective pending
                    approval by the APC and Faculty Senate.


Add:      The following as the last sentence to the Incompletes
          entry found on page 41 of the Catalog 1995-96 of The
          University of North Carolina at Asheville:

     Requests for extensions of the completion deadline will
     routinely not be approved.  In the event of extraordinary
     circumstances, the instructor and student may petition the
     Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs for consideration.


Rationale:

     The Registrar always receives a few requests for extensions of
     the Incomplete deadline each term.  While it has been practice
     to deny such requests, the recent increase in the volume of
     the requests has made it evident that some clarification of
     the policy is in order.


Impact:

     None.  This addition merely puts in print what has always been
     in practice and is implied in the current policy.
