Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

     APC Document #1: CATALOG CHANGES IN MASS COMMUNICATION 


Date Effective:  Fall, 1995

1.   DELETE:

301  Newspaper Workshop (1)

Use of personal computers and small format publication
tools to write, edit and produce a studentþedited
campus newspaper.  This course may be repeated for up
to three hours credit.  Repetition counts toward
credits for graduation, but does not fulfill major
requirements.  Prerequisite:  MCOM 201 or permission of
instructor.  Course offered every semester.

ADD:

301  Newspaper Workshop I (1)

Use of personal computers and small format publication
tools to write, edit and produce a studentþedited
campus newspaper.  Prerequisite:  MCOM 201 or
permission of instructor.  Course offered every
semester.

311  Newspaper Workshop II (1)

Continuation of MCOM 301.  Use of personal computers
and small format publication tools to write, edit and
produce a studentþedited campus newspaper. 
Prerequisites:  MCOM 201 and MCOM 301.  Course offered
every semester.  Does not count toward major.

313  Newspaper Workshop III (1)

Continuation of MCOM 311.  Use of personal computers
and small format publication tools to write, edit and
produce a studentþedited campus newspaper. 
Prerequisite:  MCOM 311.  Course offered every
semester.  Does not count toward major.

RATIONALE:  This change is proposed in order to enable
student transcripts to more accurately reflect the
increasing responsibilities and skills which are gained
during repetition of MCOM 301.

     IMPACT:  This change has no effect upon staffing or
enrollment.

2.   DELETE:

303  Video Workshop (1)

Use of small format video production equipment to
complete a variety of production assignments.  This
course may be repeated for up to three hours credit. 
Repetition counts toward credits for graduation, but
does not fulfill major requirements.  Prerequisite: 
MCOM 205 or permission of instructor.  Course offered
every fall semester.

     ADD:

303  Video Workshop I (1)

Use of small format video production equipment to
complete a variety of production assignments. 
Prerequisite:  MCOM 205 or permission of instructor.

     305  Video Workshop II (1)

Continuation of MCOM 303.  Use of small format video
production equipment to complete a variety of
production assignments.  Prerequisite:  MCOM 303 or
permission of instructor.  Course offered every fall
semester.  Does not count toward major requirements.

     307  Video Workshop III (1)

Continuation of MCOM 305.  Use of small format video
production equipment to complete a variety of
production assignments.  Prerequisite:  MCOM 305. 
Course offered every fall semester.  Does not count
toward major requirements.

RATIONALE:  This change is proposed in order to enable
student transcripts to more accurately reflect the

3.   ADD:

380  Media Aesthetics (3)
Examination of the practical and artistic choices in
producing video and film media.  Students will focus on
the relationships among sight, sound and motion. 
Course offered once each year.

RATIONALE:  An elective of interest to students in Mass
Communication, Physics, Music, Drama, and Art.

IMPACT:  No effect.

4.   DELETE:

433  Scriptwriting for Film and Video (3)
