Purpose Working with the University Planning Officer, the UPC is the institutional body charged with coordinating campus-wide planning and budgeting activities and for formulating recommendations to the Faculty Senate and the Chancellor. 2. Duties a. Review of departments and programs through self-studies conducted by each unit at least once every five years. b. Review of University Centers and Institutes through self-studies conducted by each unit at least once every five years. c. Review Administrative programs on a three year schedule. d. Evaluate proposals for new degree programs, tracks or concentrations, or elimination of such programs, and develop recommendations to the Faculty Senate and the Administration. e. Assist in development and implementation of the University planning cycle. f. Participate annually in the setting of University budget objectives and allocations. g. Participate periodically in the review of University mission and goals. h. Meet periodically with the appropriate committee of the Board of Trustees to discuss University planning and goals. 3. Membership Faculty: 6 members - 4 from Faculty Senate (IDC) 2 appointed by VCAA (for staggered 2- year terms) Administration: 4 members - 3 appointed by Chancellor 1 University Planning Officer Students: 2 students - elected by the Student Govt. Assoc. Ex Officio: Director of Institutional Research 5. Membership Qualifications and Selection Faculty: full-time members of the faculty Administration: the three appointed members should be from at least two different administrative areas (academic affairs, financial affairs, student affairs, university relations) Students: 1 junior, 1 senior; both full-time students 6. Chairperson The Chairperson of IDC will normally serve as the Chair of UPC. The University Planning Officer will serve as the Vice Chair and serve as the Chair when necessary. Ancillory request: The Faculty Senate should develop a description of responsibilities for IDC.
