The "Fitness Development Course Options" (activity courses which satisfy the general education requirement) are graded as S/U. To provide consistency for non- lecture courses in the Department of Health and Fitness, the grading system for both "Skill Development" and "Fitness Development" activity courses should be the same. A grading system of S/U for activity courses is preferred over a letter grade so students will not feel that they are being given a grade based on their athletic abilities. The goal of a Health and Fitness activity course is to help the student learn and enjoy the fitness activity to the extent that the student will be motivated to continue this healthful activity for the rest of his or her life. Removing "grade stress" in these types of courses helps ensure that this goal will be achieved. Impact: Requires no catalog change or additional resources.
