                               Minutes, MAY 4, 1989

        The May 4th meeting of the Faculty Senate was called to order at

        3:35 pm in the Whitman Room of Ramsey Library by Chair Charles

        Prokop.  



                          Executive Committee Elections 



        Elections for Executive Committee positions for the next year were

        held with the following results.  The chairman of the Faculty

        Senate is Charles Prokop;  first vice chairman and APC chair is

        Lisa Friedenberg;  second vice chairman and IDC chair is Linda

        Nelms;  secretary and chair of FWDC is Martha Marshall.

        Preferences for committee assignments were collected from the

        Senators.  



                               Administrative Report



        Dr. Wilson gave the Administrative Report.  

             Dr. Wilson reported that all but one charge brought by

        Marketta Laurila had been stayed or denied by Judge Voorhees.  The

        remaining charge concerns Laurila's summer school salary while she

        was ill in Nicaragua, and has not been determined.  Plantiff

        Laurila has withdrawn all charges against Dr. Henry Stern and Dr.

        Marcel Andrade.  

             $198K will be returned to UNCA from the State Budget Office;

        this reduces the original 5% reduction in funds GA had originally

        requested from UNCA as a result of reduced tax collections by the

        State in March.  





                                 Old/New Business 



        There was no Old or New Business.  



        Dr. Prokop adjourned the meeting at 3:50 PM.
