Since the development of the Business and Administration Track the course content of both ECON 210 and ECON 305 have been changed. Originally ECON 305 was a more general overview. Now ECON 210 fulfills that purpose. An examination of course content and joint discussions with the the economics faculty have determined that ECON 210 is the more appropriate course for this track. 3. Impact on the Economics Department will be approximately 25 additional students in ECON 210 and 25 fewer students in ECON 305 per year. SUBJECT: Changes for Management Department's Directed Research 1. MGMT 495 Directed Research (1-6) requires the student and faculty member to approach research methodology, survey methods, experimental design, data collection plans and proposal preparation as required. Current prerequisites are senior standing, permission of the department chair and a sponsoring department faculty member. Though this approach will accomplish specific research objectives, it will not necessarily provide the student with the basic fundamentals of research. The addition of MGMT 494 Research Methodology (3) will provide these basic fundamentals. 2. The change in MGMT 495 Directed Research (1-6) requires that the student have a basic knowledge in these fundamentals prior to attempting a research project. This will normally be obtained by successful completion of MGMT 494 Research Methodology (3). Under certain circumstances this requirement may be met by MGMT 351 Marketing Resarch (3). 3. This change will not impact on other departments. PROPOSED CATALOG CHANGES 1. On page 166 make the following changes; a. Prerequisites: 322 or 332; CSCI 126 and senior standing. SUBJECT: Declaration of Major Exception 1. After one semester, it has become evident that some major Page 5 declaration requirements may place a student's financial aid at jeopardy. These are students within the following categories; non-traditional who are reimbursed by their employer, veterans and athletes. A student who is in the position where they must declare a major or become ineligible for aid may declare a major that they have no attention in pursuing. This practice may be in violation of the spirit of the regulation which they are attempting to follow. Such a violation could result in a loss of support. Many students who find themselves in this undesirable position are transfer students. The problem is further aggravated by the availability of some of the required courses. 2. The proposed change will allow the department chair to make exceptions to the declaration of major requirements. 3. This change will impact favorably on those departments that have specific course requirements for major declaration. PROPOSED CATALOG CHANGES on page 159 make the following change: "Declaration of Major:" Insert after last sentence "The chairman may make exceptions where extenuating circumstances are present."
