A-8-3 The Academic Appeals Board shall be composed of four faculty members and one alternate, elected at large by the faculty from a list of no fewer than seven nominees provided by the Faculty Senate, three students plus one alternate (elected by the Student Government), and the Faculty Conciliator. The four faculty elected to the Board by the faculty shall serve a two year staggered term; they may be elected to serve a second term; they may not be elected to a third term until they have been off the Board for at least two years. An effort should be made to provide for representation from the three academic divisions. Alternates shall serve a one year term and a new alternate elected each year. Student members of the Board and the Faculty Conciliator shall each serve a term of one year. The Faculty Conciliator may not serve more than three consecutive terms. Current policy The Academic ....and the Faculty Conciliator. All Board Members shall serve for one year, and they may be reelected to serve consecutive terms. Page 2 Rationale The policy of allowing election to consecutive terms has not assured continuity on the Academic Appeals Board. Faculty who have served on this Committee feel continuity is important. If approved, current faculty elected to the Academic Appeals Board by the faculty would select two of their members to continue service through 1990-91. Two new members would be elected to serve two-year terms from 1990-92; an alternate would be elected to serve a one year term. Members of the Board should not serve more than two consecutive terms to assure broader representation on the Board over a period of years. The alternate should serve only a one-year term so they may become eligible to serve a full two-year term after one year as an alternate.
