                         ACCOUNTABILITY OF STANDING COMMITTEES 
 
 
       Proposed change  
 
            All chairs of standing and ad hoc committees of the faculty shall 
       submit a summary report of their significant activities for the year to 
       the VCAA and the Chairs of the Senate and FWDC by May 30 of each 
       academic year.  This report should list uncompleted projects and other 
       recommended activities for the next academic year, and any proposed 
       changes in the committee structure, membership or focus.  These reports 
       should be made available to new committee chairs to aid in accomplishing 
       committee objectives.   
 
       Current policy
 
            A limited number of reporting requirements exist.  The Faculty 
       Conciliator has to provide the VCAA with a report.  Senate minutes 
       provide some information on committee activities.   
 
       Rationale
 
            The VCAA and FWDC members have no formal record of what committees 
       are doing to aid in making changes or determining who best should serve

       on these committees.  A brief summary with recommended changes and a 
       list of projects to be completed would provide a history of committee 
       action as well as a better communication mechanism as to what committees 
       are doing.
