DELETE Page l23, all of description for Educ 3l0 ADD Comprehensive study of K-l2 schooling, based upon philosophical and historical influences ranging from the early mythopeics to the neo-theorists. Involves critical writings and discussions, analysis of materials and strategies, Page 2 and 22 hours of field experiences in K-l2 schools. Prerequisites: PSYC l00 and completion of approximately 40 hours of the University's General Education Requirements, or permission of instructor. RATIONALE The new description better reflects current course content and scheme. ADD Page l24 320 Middle School Principles, Practices, and Materials (3) Emphasizes the developmental goals of the middle school, methods appropriate for middle grade students, and materials appropriate for middle grade students. RATIONALE The new certification area of Foreign Language (K-l2) required by the State Department of Public Instruction necessitates this change. RATIONALE MATH l57 and l58 will meet the mathematics teaching competencies previously covered in EDUC 38l. The Department of Mathematics agrees. SOC 240 meets the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) requirement for multi-cultural studies. RATIONALE All of the above is based on the North Carolina State Department of Public Instructions competencies for Foreign Language certification grades K-12. The 7-9 foreign language certification no longer exists in North Carolina, except in Latin.
