THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT ASHEVILLE FACULTY SENATE Senate Document Number 0990S Date of Senate Approval 1/25/90 Signature of Senate Chair _______________________ Date __________ Action of Vice Chancellor: Approval _______________________ Date ______________ Denied _______________________ Date ______________ Reasons for denial and suggested modifications: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Statement of Faculty Senate Action: APC Document #6: Catalog Changes in Management Effective Date: Fall 1990 1. The title of "MGMT 380, Management Decision-Making" does not reflect the course content as described in the catalog. This is causing our students some difficulty in applying to the better graduate schools. One of the traditional titles for this type of course is "Management Science". 2. The prerequisites change for MGMT 450, International Marketing reflects course numbering changes by Mass Communications. MCOM 342 is no longer listed in the catalog. The correct prerequisite is MCOM 343, Communication Strategies in Advertising. Permission of the instructor will allow for some flexibility with the listed prerequisites. 3. The title of "MGMT 460, Production Management," does not reflect the course content. Production management infers an emphasis on production processes and does not consider the service industries. A title change to "Production and Operations Management" will reflect both the industrial process and service industry content. 4. MGMT 460, Production Management, instruction assumes that the student has an understanding of financial decision analysis techniques. ECON 306, Managerial Finance, which is a required course for all Page 2 management majors, provides that understanding. 5. MGMT 480, Management Strategies and Policies, instruction assumes that the student has an understanding of financial decision analysis techniques. ECON 306, Managerial Finance, which is a required course for all management majors, provides that understanding. 6. MGMT 492, Senior Design Project, is not an internship but is a design project. Thus describing this course as an internship is incorrect. 7. These changes do not impact on other departments. PROPOSED CATALOG CHANGES 1.
