        Statement of Faculty Senate Action: 





                                    FWDC Document #1: 

                    Policy on the Awarding of Honorary Degrees at UNCA







        Change Senate Document #7 from 1987-88 as approved by the Board of

        Trustees on 1-14-88 as follows:  



        ...The HDAC shall be comprised of the following members:  



             (a) through (c)  No change.



        Delete:



             (d)  The Vice Chancellor for University Relations, who shall

                  serve as Chair.



        Replace with:



             (d)  A University staff member appointed by the Chancellor,

                  who shall serve as Vice Chair and Secretary of the

                  Committee.  This member shall have the responsibility

                  of convening the initial meeting of the HDAC each year

                  for the purpose of electing a Chair but shall be

                  ineligible for election as Chair.

        Rationale:



             The make-up of the Committee would still be four faculty members,

        the President of SGA or designee, the President of the Alumni

        Association or designee, and one administrator.  The change in the

        administrative appointment would allow the Chancellor to choose the

        administrator he deemed appropriate to serve on the Committee each year.

        The responsibility for Chairing the Committee would shift to a faculty

        member.  Note that faculty members serve a two-year term on this

        Committee.
