                    Certification Program in Foreign Languages 

                          (Kindergarten through Grade 12)*





        Students must complete the teacher certification track in French,

        German, or Spanish.  Since the program is in transition from

        Foreign Language Certification (grades 9-12)* students must

        complete the Certification Program in Secondary Certification

        (grades 9 through 12) and see a member of the Education Department

        and the Department of Foreign Languages for additional

        requirements.  





        *Pending approval of North Carolina State Department of Public

        Instruction.  



        No catalog deletion;  add above paragraph after Certification

        Program in Theatre Arts (Kindergarten through Grade 12).  



        Rationale:  A new certification program in Foreign Languages

                    (K-12) is pending North Carolina State Department

                    approval.  As of 1990, or there about, there will

                    no longer be certification in French, German, and

                    Spanish (9-12).  It will be replaced by French,

                    German, and Spanish (K-12).  However, SDPI has yet

                    to adopt official competencies for this program.

                    Since we have received preliminary competencies,

                    we are currently advising students based on these

                    competencies.  Therefore, to ensure students will

                    be prepared when program changes are official, we

                    request this catalog addition.
