Replace with: Certification Program in Elementary School Certification (Kindergarten through Grade 6) Any major may be selected. An endorsement in Reading or certification in a second area related to the chosen major is recommended. In addition, the following requirements must be met: I. Required courses in Education -- 46 hours, including 130, 310, 312, 315, 319, 330, 332, 342, 344, 381, 400, 455, and 492. II. Required courses outside Education -- 25 hours, including HIST 101 or 102, and 315; MATH 157, 158; PSYC 100, 217, 220, and 316*. Recommended electives: CHEM 143; CSCI 126; DRAM 101; MATH 163, 164; SOC 301; PHIL 101, and PSYC 312, 314. III. Other departmental requirements -- standard requirements outlined above for all certification students must be met. *PSYC 316 may be replaced by a course in Statistics or Research Methods in the Social Sciences D. Environmental Impact: This change will reduce the number of students needing HIST 151 and 152 by an estimated 10-15 per year. The current PSYC 220 course fulfills the testing and measurement competencies indicated by the NC SDPI. 2. The Humanities sequence fulfills the World History and Culture competencies set by the NC SDPI. Page 2
