Topics addressed include: the structure, economic role, and operation of major financial markets; the effect of individual, business, government, and financial institution decisions on prices and yields of financial instruments; and the causes and consequences of financial innovation and deregulation. Page 3 _________ ___ Economics 350: International Economics (3) A survey of theory, policy and institutions pertaining to the international sector. Topics studied include the nature and direction of world trade, balance of payments disequilibria, and the nature and role of the international financial system. Issues surrounding commercial policy and protectionism are examined, both from a domestic and global standpoint. Prerequisites: Economics 200 and 201. _________ ___ Economics 410: Monetary Theory and Policy (3) A critical analysis of theories of the demand for and supply of money, and their implications for the conduct of monetary policy, including its desirability. The nature and role of money are closely examined, and while the "Monetarist-Keynesian" debate is considered, the viewpoints of economists ranging from "New Classical" to "Post-Keynesian" and Marxian are also studied. Some emphasis is placed on the institutional and historical setting of the theories studied. Prerequisites: Economics 215 or 301.
