           EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE DOCUMENT NUMBER 2





           The Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs shall, in consultation

           with the Executive Committee of the Senate, appoint an Ad Hoc

           Task Force to review the procedure for determining thrust areas.

           That committee will be appointed in the Spring of 1988 and bring

           a recommendation to the Senate by Thanksgiving of 1988.  The

           committee should consult with the past Chairs of the University

           Planning Council, the Chancellor, and those who have proposed

           both successful and unsuccessful thrust areas.



           The Distinctive competition for 1989-1992 shall be conducted as

           previous thrust competitions with the exception of the timetable

           for submission of proposals.  The University Planning Officer

           will distribute the first call for proposals prior to May 7,

           1988.  A second call for proposals will be distributed by the

           Planning Officer on Labor Day.  The deadline for proposals shall

           be December 1, 1988.
