FWDC #3 Senate #0687F _____ Approved _____ For a sense of the Senate: A FIVE YEAR OUTLINE FOR FACULTY DEVELOPMENT As a means of promoting and enhancing Faculty Development at UNCA, the Faculty Senate will attempt to establish the following programs over the next five years. Some of these programs require more substantial resources than others. Those that require relatively little in the way of monetary funding may be established immediately. Those that require larger amounts of funding must by necessity be rather modest in scope in the beginning. As funding is developed both internally and externally through the office of University Relations we hope to expand the programs outlined below, as well as establish new ones where appropriate. Since the definition of Faculty Development is as broad as the diversity of individuals covered, and since the individual's needs change with time, many of these programs are tailored to individual programs of development. Other programs will be more global in scope. The FWDC will provide the initial direction and administration of the programs outlined below, except where noted, to help assure that the funds are directed toward their intended purpose. As the programs and resources expand, their administration will be delegated to other committees, groups, or individuals. The FWDC will then perform its more traditional role in overseeing the program of Faculty Development as a "committee on committees". Most importantly, the acceptance of this document will signify the commitment of the administration, Faculty Senate and faculty to the development and support of a program for faculty development. The following programs will be established: - "Off-Campus Scholarly Assignments" - "Faculty Development Small Grants Program" - "Funded Released Time" - Travel Funds - Faculty Evaluation - Increased Recognition of Accomplishment
