APC #21 Senate #23 Approved 3/25/87 APC Document #21 February 27, 1987 M E M O R A N D U M To: Chairmen From: Paul J. Sweeney Subject: Foreign Language Requirement Unless I hear to the contrary prior to March 2, 1987, the following changes will be effected in your program _______ description(s) in the 1987-89 Catalog: All Departmental program descriptions except history will be changed as follows: If a program presently requires proficiency through the intermediate level, a foreign language requirement listed as "a minimum of 6 semester hours" will be entered. If a program presently offers the foreign language "option," all mention of a foreign language requirement will be deleted. Mrs. Cadle brought to our attention that a direct conversion to the general education requirements is not possible, since the catalog a student enrolled under in the past may well not be the more recent catalog under which a student may declare a major. Therefore, new major requirements may not reflect the old general education requirements and it would be possible to by-pass the foreign language requirements altogether. The above changes do not solve all departments' problems, but is the most intermediate general move we can make to cover all classes. Please let me know of any modification you might have to these statements.
