The interplay between population dynamics and the nature and organization of society is the focal point of this course. Issues such as population growth and control, regulation of migration, generation and application of health care technology, changing values toward procreation and death will be discussed. Rationale: Demography and epidemiology are basic studies in sociology. Population dynamics affect social organizations which in turn impact on social interaction. Important public policies lie in the area of population and health care policy. Students will encounter basic methods in the course which are useful in job applications and general understanding of the world in which they live. Offered as an elective. Effective date: Spring 1987
