Faculty Senate Minutes October 1, 1985 The Faculty Senate special session to elect a committee to conduct the search for a new Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs was called to order at 3.30 p.m. on October 1, 1985. Senators present: Betts, Bennett, Combs, Coyne, Downes, Grams, Hollingsworth, Henderson, Kormanik, Larson, Ruiz, Shoaf, Sweeney, Uldricks Others: Patch, Browning, Howard, Seitz, Thurman, Nickless, Friedenberg, Hantz, Furnish, Perry, Andrade Excused: Farzanegan Announcements: There will be a special session, open to all faculty, on Thursday, October 3 at 2:30 in the Owen Conference Center with the representatives of Enwright and Associates, who are doing the Master Plan. They will meet with the UPC at that time to present their preliminary recommendations. All faculty are cordially invited to attend. Dr. Coyne set forth the following guidelines recommended by Dr. Brown for the selection of the Vice-Chancelor Search Committee. The Committee will be composed of five faculty members, of which at least two must be department chairmen. The Committee will be elected by the Senate from the entire faculty. The Chancellor will name two appointees who may be administrators or additional faculty members. Two students, selected by the Student Government, will also serve on the Committee. There was discussion about the criteria for selection of the committee. The Senate was asked to consider the diversity of interest to be represented and at the same time to consider the qualifications of the individual nominees. The procedure for voting was designed to insure the election of two department chairmen. The floor was opened for nominations. The following faculty members were presented for consideration: Dr. Ruiz, Dr. Patch, Dr. Friedenberg, Dr. Wengrow, Dr. Comer, Dr. Coyne, Dr. Perry (declined), Dr. Kormanik, Dr. Browning (declined), Dr. Seitz (declined), Dr. Downes, Dr. Larson, Dr. Sabo (declined), Dr. Hollingsworth, Ms. James, Dr. Sulock. Dr. Coyne called for a motion that nominations be closed. The motion was made by Dr. Combs, seconded and passed unanimously. Ballots were distributed and the vote was taken.
