                    Changes in the Catalogue                
 

The following changes are proposed for students seeking teacher 
certification:

RATIONALE:

Because there is confusion over the title of EDUC 492, Senior 
Seminar in Education, K-12, (3).  We also offer the course EDUC 455, 
Student Teaching and Seminar, K-12 (6).  We would like to change the 
title of EDUC 492 to, "Directed Research in Education, K-12, (3)."  
This should avoid any confusion in the future.  Students have been 
seeing this course as an extension of EDUC 455 because of the over-
lapping terms.

RATIONALE:

We would like to change EDUC 200, Introduction to Education, K-12, 
(4) to EDUC 310, Introduction to Eduation, K-12, (4).  Our purpose 
in doing this is:

l)  Unlike other courses numbered 100 or 200, EDUC 200, is not an
    "introductory" course.  It is the first course to be taken in 
    the Teacher Certification Program.  Consequently, the number of
    the course is misleading relative to the requirements.

2)  Students enrolled in the Teacher Certification Program require
    5 years for graduation.  As a result students should enroll in
    EDUC 200 as second semester sophmores or first semester juniors. 
    All students enrolled in the course should have completed at 
    least 50 percent of all general academic requirements.  Under no 
    circumstances should freshmen be enrolled in EDUC 200.
