Senate Document # 6 Faculty Welfare Committee Document # 2 1985-86 The Senate recommends to the Chancellor that faculty parking citations be disregarded upon receipt, by the Chief of Security, of a letter from the faculty member affirming that such parking was necessary in order to meet class on time, except when parking violates safety regulations, handicapped parking, interferes with the flow of traffic, or when a valid parking sticker is not displayed. Rationale: Parking is a necessary precondition for teaching, i.e., completing the terms of the faculty member;s contract. The present policy of giving parking citations to faculty members, along with the formal court-like appeal process, is time consuming, taking away from the faculty member's professional work time degrading to all concerned, and leads to bad feelings between the faculty and security officers.
