SENATE DOCUMENT #31 ACADEMIC POLICIES COMMITTEE DOCUMENT #21 1984-85 The Academic Policies Committee recommends the addition of the following course in the Department of Psychology: 323 Development of Consciousness (3) Major theories of consciousness, its historical and individual development; students will engage in self-exploration and development projects. Rationale: In recent years the psychology of consciousness has become a full and legitimate content area with its own theoretical and empirical structures. It goes well beyond the show and tell "altered states" orientation of the sixties and early seventies. This course is designed to cover the essential content of the field, and to include a substantial workshop component. The latter is not an old sytle experiential cafeteria, but a serious and searching involvement in some aspect of personal growth in consciousness.
