FW84123 THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT ASHEVILLE FACULTY WELFARE AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE Document #3 1984-1985 The Faculty Senate recommends to the Chancellor and Board of Trustees the following policy on granting Emeritus status. To honor distinguished service, the University grants emeritus status to those faculty members or administrators with faculty rank who: 1. Retire from the university with the rank of full professor after at least ten years of service at UNC-A. 2. Have demonstrated distinguished performance as determined by the judgment of the Committee of Tenured Faculty. 3. Are approved by the Board of Trustees acting upon the recommendation received from the faculty and Chancellor. However, special circumstances may dictate that the first of these require- ments be waived, in which case the voting committee above is impowered to act by a two-thirds vote. Eligibility for emeritus status under these standards is retroactive for all faculty who have retired since the creation of the University of North Carolina at Asheville. In each instance of retirement, the Chairman of the Senate shall initiate the process of recommending emeritus status, provided such action meets the approval of the individual concerned.
