Senate Document #30 APC Document #24 Music Curriculum Revisions Effective: Fall 1984 I. PROGRAM REQUIREMENT CHANGES A. Senior Comprehensives (Music Theory and Music History) Change to "Required for ALL programs." RATIONALE: 1. Currently only students in Music and General Liberal Arts are required to do the written comprehensives in Music History and Theory (all others do the Internship). 2. For purposes of consistency and quality of degrees, we believe all majors should do comprehensives. 3. To be assured that transfer students have, in fact, learned what UNCA believes a BA or a BS degree in music should imply. (Unlike many degree programs music majors take many courses in the major during their freshman and sophomore years and thus transfers do not take these significant courses at UNCA.) II. PROPOSED NEW COURSE A. MUSC 362 ARRANGING (3) Description: Study of harmony, melody, and rhythm as applied to problems of arranging for instrumental and vocal ensembles of varying sizes and styles.
