The University of North Carolina at Asheville FACULTY SENATE April 28, 1983 The Faculty Senate met at 4:30 pm in Library I with Dr. John Stevens, presiding. Members present: Dr. Comer, Dr. Farzanegan, Dr. Friedenberg (alternate), Dr. Gillum, Dr. Grams, Dr. Greenawalt, Dr. Howard, Dr. Otti, Dr. Rackham, Dr. Ruiz, Dr. Shoaf, Dr. Stern, Dr. Walker, Dr. Williams. Members absent: Dr. Squibb and Mr. Wengrow Visitors: Dr. Browning, Dr. Bruce, Mr. Cagle, Dr. Cochran, Dr. Hengstler, Dr. Rice and Dr. Seitz I. Announcements: Dr. Stevens announced that Chancellor Highsmith met with the Executive Committee at 2:30 pm and stated that he will summarize to the Trustees the work of the year. Additionally, he will announce to the Trustees that the 83-84 academic year will be his last term as Chancellor and he will assume responsibilities as professor of history and will also be involved in research. At the meeting with the Chancellor the process of selection of a new Chancellor was discussed. Dr. Stevens read letters from Dr. Browning and Dr. Stoughton giving their resignations from the Senate. II. Elections A. Elections of Members - Drs. Squibb and Stern were elected as members to fill the slots vacated by Dr. Browning and Stoughton. B. Election of Chairman of Faculty Senate - Dr. Rackham was elected as Chairman. C. Election of First Vice-President and Chairman of Academic Policy Committee - Dr. Otti was elected as Vice-President and Chairman of Academic Policy Committee. D. Election of Chairman of Institutional Development Committee - Dr. Comer was elected as Chairman of Institutional Development Committee. E. Election of Secretary of Faculty Senate and Chairman of Faculty Welfare Committee - Dr. Greenawalt was elected as Secretary of Faculty Senate and Chairman of Faculty Welfare Committee. III. Adjournment - The meeting adjourned at 5:25 pm.
