                            PROPOSAL FOR A MINOR IN MUSIC







           Add to program description on page 134 of the 1982-83 catalog.



           MINOR IN MUSIC



           Students wishing to complete an academic minor in Music may do

           so by completing 18 hours in Music including 6 hrs. in Music

           Theory (Musc. 231-232) and 6 hrs. in Music History and

           Literature (Musc . 351-352) and 6 hrs. of electives.  At least 9

           hours must be taken at the University of North Carolina at

           Asheville.



           RATIONALE:



           Students already have the option of combining music with a

           cognate of 24 hrs. in either Compositions, Drama,

           Physics/Engineering, or Management.  Some students may prefer to

           combine a major in one of these areas with a minor in music.

           Offering the music minor now would round out the options

           described in the approved music major program proposal document.
