1982-1983 SENATE DOCUMENT #4 APC DOCUMENT #5 CATALOG REVISIONS FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS Proposed change from Phys 324 Modern Physics (4) to Phys 324 Modern Physics (3). Rationale: The 4 hours listing for Modern Physics is based on the assumption that a laboratory period is included. Since Modern Physics does not have a laboratory period, it is more appropriate that it be a 3 credit hour course. The student acquires laboratory training in our upper-level experimental physics course. Modern Physics with 3 hours also permits easy scheduling and there is uniformity in our non-laboratory physics major courses: all are 3 credit hours. This change would necessitate the following editorial revisions: 1. For Program A, (see page 141) the required courses in the major amounts to 35 hours instead of 36. (see page 141). 2. For Program B, (see page 141) the required courses in the major amounts to 34 hours instead of 35. 3. For the B.S. Degree (see page 142, Concentration in Computer Science), the required courses in the major above the introductory level amounts to 22 hours instead of 23. Note: When the introductory level is included, the credit hour count is 30 in the major. The student takes 12 hours of Computer Science in this program.
