           Rationale:  As a survey of American history, the two courses

           represent the introduction to more advanced work in the field of

           American history.  At present, the History Department has no

           100-level courses, and, in terms of analytical skills, assumed

           background, presentation, reading load and difficulty, amount

           and complexity of written assignments, the two courses belong at

           the freshman level.





           Change:  History 251, 252, World Civilization to 1687, World

           Civilization Since 1687, to History 151, 152, .  .  .
