                          REVISIONS IN LITERATURE PROGRAM





        Program A - Literature (p. 102, 1981-82 catalog) 



        1.  In Roman numeral I, change required number of hours to 36, and

        add to the list of required courses:  Lierature 480 (Shakespeare)

        and Literature 495 (Senior Seminar).  



        2.  In Roman numeral IV, under Other Departmental Requirements,

        strike the line, "A Senior Paper (Literature 494)." 



        Program D - Teaching of English 



        1.  Under Roman numeral I, change the listing of required courses

        to the following:  "36 hours, including 201, 202, 203, 204, 331,

        361, 455, 480, 495; Language 323, 341." 



             "This is an addition of Literature 204 (Modern), 480

        (Shakespeare), and 495 (Senior Seminar).  It removed a previous

        requirement for Language 251 (Introduction to Journalism).  



        2.  Under Roman numeral IV, strike everything as it now appears and

        insert the following:  



             "Other departmental requirements:  3 hours of electives chosen

        from Communications 221, Language 342, Drama 102, or Literature

        course above the 300 level; a Demonstration of Competency

        Examination; required professional education courses (see Education

        section)." 



        3.  On p. 107 strike Literature 496, Senior Paper, and insert in

        its place the following:  



             "495 Senior Seminar (3) 



             A synthesizing and unifying course devoted to important issues

        of literary philosophy, criticism, and history; to be taken in the

        same semester as the Senior Comprehensive Examination; Senior Paper

        written as part of the requirements.  For advanced students only."
