1981-1982 Senate Document #51 APC Document #44 Sociology Minor Add to the program description ending on page 141 (following Program D-Gerontology) the following: Minor in Sociology The minor in sociology will require the student to complete 21 hours in sociology which include Sociology 100, 225, and 15 hours in sociology which will complement the work the student has done in his or her major program. The 15 hours should be chosen in consultation with a member of the sociology staff, drawing from model programs that would be designed for students with particular majors. At least 6 semester hours of the latter must be at the 300-400 level which shall be taken at UNC-Asheville. Rationale: The minor is conceived as a compliment to the work of students majoring in such fields as Psychology, Communications, Literature, and Management, as well as Philosophy, History, Political Science, and Economics. Sociology offers such a broad range of content areas that there is ample leeway for students to broaden their substantive knowledge in areas relevant to their interests.
