1981-1982 Senate Document #34 FWC Document #2 Resolution on Faculty Salaries To be Delivered to the Faculty Assembly Whereas the State Legislature delayed its decision on across-the-board salary increases until October 1981, meeting in a special session, Whereas this late session meant that the final decision on across the board salaries was made after allocations to programs which should have had lower priority than educational programs, Whereas, the late session decided on a 5 percent across-the-board increase in salary beginning at mid-year (January 1, 1982), resulting in a 2-1/2 percent cost of living raise in a year of double digit inflation, And wheres hints have been reported in the mass media that the January 1, 1982 raise also may be considered sufficient for the 1982 fiscal year, thus raising the possibility of only one raise for two-year period, Be it therefore resolved that the UNCA Faculty Senate wishes to go on record urging that the State Legislature avoid the late-session approach to salaries in the future because of the unsatisfactory experiences of the October 1981 decisions. Be it also resolved than an adequate pay raise for 1982-1983 fiscal year be adopted.
