1981-1982 Senate Document #28 EC Document #4 Policy for Developing Transfer Agreements Between Accredited Two-year Institutions and UNC-Asheville 1. The Chancellor and other appropriate representatives of this Institution should make every effort possible to develop transfer agreements between UNC-Asheville and accredited two-year institutions. 2. Current and future agreements are to specify transfer equivalencies in General Education; program requirements; and general electives. 3. As a general principle, work at two-year institutions should not be transferred as equivalent to 300 or 400 level courses at UNC-Asheville. Exceptions to this principle are to be clearly specified in an appendix to each agreement after consultation with departments offering those courses. 4. The determination of course equivalencies is to be done in consultation with faculty representatives from appropriate departments. Beyond this determination, transcripts of transferees from two-year institutions with whom UNC-Asheville has a formal agreement would be processed as part of the regular admissions procedure. Unusual cases and exceptions would be discussed with appropriate department chairmen. 5. The APC and the Admissions Committees are to be kept informed of academic progress of students transferring to UNCA as a result of these agreements. 6. Initial agreements and any revisions are to be reviewed by the APC and Faculty Senate for faculty opinion and recommendations. These recommendations are forwarded to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for his review. He will in turn summarize his own recommendations and comments in a memorandum to the Chairman of the Senate. In addition, the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs will forward to the Chancellor a copy of this summary along with the Senate recommendations and the minutes of the Senate meeting in which these recommendations were discussed.
