1980-81 SENATE DOCUMENT #30 APC DOCUMENT #30 Three Courses Joint UNCA - NC State University Engineering Program The Academic Policies Committee recommends to the Faculty Senate approval of the following three courses as part of the joint UNCA - NC State University Engineering Program: ENGR 100 Introduction to Engineering (1) An introduction to the joint university program, the School of Engineering, and the engineering profession. Topics include general academic requirements and special educational opportunities, the history of engineering, professionalism in ethics, the nature and scope of engineering, and departmental presentations conveying the special characteristics and differences in engineering as practiced by the specialty areas within the profession. ENGR 201 Structure and Properties of Engineering Materials (3) An introduction to the fundamental physical principles governing the structure and constitution of metallic and non-metallic materials of construction, and the relation of these principles to the control of properties. Prerequisites: Chem 141 and 142 ENGR 206 Engineering Statics (3) Basic concepts, forces and equilibrium, distributive forces, virtual work, and inertial properties; application to machines, structures and systems. Prerequisite: Phys 221 and corequisite Math 201 --------------------------- These courses are to be offered in accordance with the joint agreement approved by the Chancellors of UNCA and NCSU in June, 1980. The courses have been reviewed and approved by the School of Engineering, N C State University. The instructor resources will come from adjunct professors recruited locally. No instructional resources are required from UNCA. It is recommended that a course numbering system be adopted as indicated with the above courses. This would use ENGR to designate UNCA courses with the numbers corresponding to the courses at NCSU. Effective Date: Fall, 1981 (Passed by Faculty Senate 4/2/81)
