SENATE DOCUMENT #12 APC Document #8 The Academic Policies Committee recommends to the Faculty Senate approval of the new Biology course described below: Biology 221 Fresh Water Biology (4) An introduction to the biology of the major fresh water habitats. Emphasis is placed on the determination of the primary floral and faunal elements plus the characeristic physicochemical properties of these habitats. Prerequisites: Biology 131, 132, 133. This course will involve a combination of lecture, laboratory and field study. Rationale: This course will be designed as an intermediate level offering for biology majors, but additionally will serve to meet a specific requirement for students enrolled in the proposed environmental studies program at UNC-A. I believe the course should be included in our summer school program in addition to being offered on a regular basis during the fall or spring semester. Currently there is a decided lack in the diversity of biology courses given during the summer, and considerable interest has been expressed by transients as well as our own students in a course of this nature. (Passed by Faculty Senate 12/12/79).
