SENATE DOCUMENT #28 APC Document #20 The Academic Policies Committee recommends to the Faculty Senate the adoption of the following catalog changes for the Foreign Language Department: CATALOG REVISIONS DELETE: First paragraph under the heading MAJORS IN FRENCH, GERMAN, AND SPANISH, on page 110. Replace with the following paragraph: The Department offers majors in French, German, and Spanish. The requirements for a major will be fulfilled in each field by the successful completion of twenty-four semester hours in courses numbered 300 or above. Of these 24 hours 6 may be taken in Foreign Language Department course offerings conducted in English (one course in Civilization and one in Literature in Translation). In addition, successful participation in a senior proseminar (Course number 485) designed to test the student's competency in preparing oral and written presentations on a wide range of topics covering language, literature, and culture is required of all majors. All students having previous knowledge of a foreign language must taken a placement test. It is highly recommended that the student achieve proficiency in a second foreign language. DELETE: The following sentence which appears in bold-faced type in the middle of page 113: "All course numbered 330 or higher are taught in German." (Passed Faculty Senate February 9, 1979)
