Senate Document #7 APC Document #6 The Academic Policies Committee recommends to the Faculty Senate the adoption of the following catalog changes: Add: Course Title: Econ 320: Industrial Organization (3 semester credit hours) Course Description: This course will consider primarily the nature and function of government regulation, control, and influence in business activity in the United States with respect to industrial structure, conduct, and performance. It will also survey the organization of industry in the American economy, and consider the empirical and analytical techniques used in industrial organization. Prerequisite: Econ 100 or permission of instructor. Rationale: The department has wanted to offer such a course for several years to add needed depth and breadth to our offerings and to respond to growing interest and importance of this subject area within the discipline. Until the department expanded to four full-time faculty, a course could not be offered. At present we not only have the available faculty resources, but in recruiting our fourth faculty member, the department specifically stipulated a specialty in Industrial Organizations, which Mr. Lawson does possess. This course will serve specific degree and/or career needs of both economic and management majors plus provide an opportunity for any student to gain insights into the functioning of our corporate sector and its inter-relationship with the Governmental sector of our economy. The course is offered at the 300 level as it will deal with intermediate to advanced level theoretical analysis; require insights and analytical skills consistent with that level work; require both oral and written competency expected of junior and senior students. (Passed by Faculty Senate January 31, 1978.)
