Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

APC Document 50: Change the prerequisite for MATH 480

Effective Date: Fall 2007

1. Delete: On page 194, the prerequisite for MATH 480:

Prerequisite: MATH 291 and at least junior standing; or permission of the instructor.

Add : On page 194, in place of deleted entry:

Prerequisite: MATH 381; or permission of the instructor.

Impact:

There will be no impact on the resources and staffing of the math department due to this change.

Rationale:

MATH 480 is our senior capstone course. As such, before taking this course students should have completed a significant amount of the math program. By adding the MATH 381 prerequisite we can be sure students are ready for this class. This will also force students to take MATH 381 before their last semester, which also fits better with the math program.
