Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

APC Document  29:                  Add prerequisites to DRAM 244 and 245 and change times offered

Modify course description for DRAM 245

Effective Date:  Fall 2007

1.  Delete:         On pg 101, the last line in the description for DRAM 244:

                  Every third semester.

Add:           On pg 101, in place of deleted entry:

                  Prerequisite:  DRAM 144. Spring.

Impact: This change does not impact major, minor, or university requirements. The change will not impact departmental resources, but will require balance in scheduling faculty load.

Rationale: Adding DRAM 144 as a prerequisite will provide the students with a common foundation from which they can discuss plays. Offering the course every year will allow the students to progress through the major or minor requirements more effectively.

2.  Delete:         On pg 101, the description for DRAM 245:

Continuation of DRAM 244 covering theatre and drama from 1642 to 1900.  Every third    semester.

Add:           On pg 101, in place of deleted entry:

Development of theatre and drama from 1642 through 1900: theatre and society, plays    and playwrights, theatre architecture and methods of production, and styles of acting.      Prerequisite: DRAM 144. Fall.

Impact: This change does not impact major, minor, or university requirements. The change will not impact departmental resources, but will require balance in scheduling faculty load.

Rationale:   Changing the course description will more accurately reflect what is covered in the course and will clarify that DRAM 244 and DRAM 245 do not need to be taken in sequence.  Adding DRAM 144 as a prerequisite will provide the students with a common foundation from which they can discuss plays. Offering the course every year will allow the students to progress through the major or minor requirements more effectively.
