Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

APC Document  33:                              Clarify the 9 hours of required courses outside the                                                                              department for Art History

Effective Date: Fall 2007

1.  Delete:  On pg. 61, under Bachelor of Arts with a Concentration in Art History, Item I, the last phrase:

and 9 hours of approved courses required outside the department (see Art Department Guidelines).

Add:            On pg. 61, in place of deleted entry:

and 9 hours of approved courses from outside the department related to one of the

following periods or areas of interest: Ancient/Classical; Medieval; Renaissance to 18th                            Century; Modern/Contemporary; Non-Western; or Theory/Criticism (see Art Department

      Guidelines).

Impact:

Students pursuing a concentration in Art History should focus on one area of interest when they select the 9 hours required outside the department. This clarifies what is expected of the student.

Rationale:

At present, the list of possible courses for the 9 hours of approved courses outside the Art department is too broad.  Art History students should be required to choose from a limited list of courses related to their chosen area of interest.
